Odisha Govt deploys specialized medical team to districts hit by flood

Bhubaneswar, July 1 (UNI) The Odisha Government today deputed two specialized medical teams
to Keonjhar, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj districts to manage post-diarrheal care and monitor health conditions arising from the ongoing flood situation.
A dedicated team, led by Dr. Prameela Baral, Additional Director of Public Health, has been deployed to Keonjhar to oversee post-diarrheal response efforts.
Dr. Baral is closely monitoring ground-level conditions, particularly the spread of water- and food-borne diseases.
She is working in coordination with the district administration to assess the prevailing health scenario, implement appropriate preventive and control measures, and ensure effective public communication on diarrhea prevention.
She is also reviewing the availability of essential medical logistics and supplies, including ORS, IV fluids, antibiotics, halazone tablets, and disinfectants for drinking water sources. Additionally, she is overseeing laboratory surveillance and response mechanisms to ensure uninterrupted support to
the affected population.
Meanwhile, another medical team headed by Dr. Binay Das Mohapatra, Joint Director, has been assigned to Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts to evaluate the flood impact and help prevent outbreaks of water-borne diseases.
Dr. Mohapatra’s team is coordinating with district authorities to monitor unusual health events, issue advisories to prevent disease outbreaks, and address cases of snake bites.
As part of preparedness measures, he is ensuring that Anti-Snake Venom (ASV) is available in all health facilities, in line with government guidelines.
The team is also verifying the availability of emergency logistics and critical medical supplies including ORS, IV fluids, antibiotics, halazone tablets, and water disinfectants.
The state government has taken prompt and proactive steps to address public health concerns in
the flood-affected areas, ensuring a timely, coordinated, and effective response to any emerging health emergencies.
