Tripura pulls out forces, halts rest house construction in disputed border village

Aizawl, June 5 (UNI) In a significant de-escalation of border tensions, the Tripura government has withdrawn its security personnel and halted construction of a Forest Rest House at Thaidawr hill in the contentious Phuldungsei village, following intervention from the top police brass of both Mizoram and Tripura.
Mizoram Home Minister K. Sapdanga on Thursday confirmed that the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) platoon deployed at Thaidawr hill has been pulled back and two police check-gates dismantled after a telephonic conversation between the Directors General of Police (DGPs) of the two neighbouring states earlier this week.
According to Sapdanga, the Mizoram DGP conveyed a firm message to his Tripura counterpart on Tuesday, warning that the continued presence of TSR at the disputed site would compel Mizoram to station its armed police, which could further aggravate the situation. In response, Tripura withdrew its forces and halted ongoing construction activities at the site, defusing immediate tension.
