Check dam brings irrigation water to 50 acres in Kaimur's Khamkala, transforms dry fields

Patna, Sept 12 (UNI) A water conservation initiative under the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin), or Viksit Bharat-G RAM G Scheme, has transformed agricultural prospects in Khamkala village of Kaimur district, with irrigation water now reaching nearly 50 acres of farmland.
Rural Development and Information and Public Relations Minister Shrawan Kumar on Saturday said that the initiative has not only helped revive cultivation in the drought-prone area but has also opened new livelihood opportunities in agriculture, livestock rearing and fisheries, particularly for women associated with the Jeevika self-help group network.
According to him, rainwater flowing down the Kaimur hills near Khamkala village in Dighar panchayat of Adhaura block used to run off without being utilised during the monsoon. To address the problem, the village gram sabha prepared a proposal for renovation of an existing dam and construction of a check dam and submitted it to the Rural Development Department.
