PM Modi’s 76th birthday marked with mega blood donation camp in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Sep 17 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday said his government is committed to ensuring adequate availability of blood in the state, as a mega donation camp organised here to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday set a target of collecting more than 6,500 units.
The camp was organised at the IDCO Exhibition Ground as part of the month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, which the chief minister described as a "mass movement promoting human service and sacrifice".
“Saving a life by donating blood reflects our high human values. No matter how much science advances, there is no substitute for blood, and it cannot be manufactured in any factory,” Majhi said.
He said the state government has launched the ‘Atal Blood Donation Campaign’ with an allocation of Rs 50.54 crore in the 2026-27 Budget to strengthen blood security. Under the initiative, blood banks are being established at new medical colleges and existing facilities are being modernised, he said.
Majhi urged young people to devote some time to social service and nation-building, saying it will be the best tribute to PM Modi.
Urban Development and Housing Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said blood donation is essential to saving lives and expressed confidence that the camp will create a new record in blood collection in the state.
Rajya Sabha MP Manmohan Samal said the camp will help address the shortage of blood witnessed in blood banks since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Majhi had earlier planted an Ashoka sapling at Lok Seva Bhawan as part of the campaign.
Rajya Sabha MP Sujit Kumar, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, Khordha MLA Prasanta Kumar Jagadev, Bhatli MLA Irashis Acharya, Mahakalapada MLA Durga Prasanna Nayak, youth leader Abhilash Panda, senior party leaders, blood donors, volunteers and media representatives attended the programme.
