Bengal: Hooghly Puja club delays pandal dismantling to protect nesting dove

Hoogly, Oct 26 (UNI) As Durga Puja festivities draw to a close and pandals across West Bengal are dismantled, members of Sukanta Smriti Sangha in Sukantanagar, Chinsurah, have decided to preserve a section of their marquee to protect a dove nesting in its bamboo framework.
The club has pledged to halt the dismantling of the roof until the eggs hatch and the fledglings take to the skies. Currently, this profound display of compassion towards a bird has overshadowed the grandeur of their pandal decorations.
Now in its 53rd year, the club’s Puja marquee was entirely handcrafted by its members. Approximately a fortnight before the festivities, a dove began constructing a nest within the bamboo framework. When the time came to erect the ceiling, members discovered four eggs nestled within. Prioritising the safety of the avian family, the organisers immediately discarded their plans to stretch tarpaulin or heavy tents over the structure, opting instead to gently drape a thin cloth above the nest.
