Elderly couple buried alive after mud wall flattens on them

Kolkata, June 26 (UNI) An elderly couple, identified as Shibprasad Mondal (75) and his wife Renuka Mondal (65), was buried alive after a mud wall flattened on them in their sleep at their Bishnurampur village home in Kulpi in West Bengal's south 24 Parganas district, official sources said today.
The wall of the kutcha house collapsed on them and they were found dead after the relatives of the couple and neighbouring people removed the rubble early this morning.
Raju Mondal, son of the victims, said he came to know early this morning that their parents were underneath the collapsed rubble. After finding them buried, they dug out the two and rushed them to the Diamond Harbour hospital where the medics pronounced them dead on arrival.
The bodies were sent for post mortem, police said. The mud wall was weakened for its age and soaked rainwater causing sudden collapse, killing the couple.
