Giriraj Singh reviews Ranchi Bio-Gas plant, seeks operational scale-up

Ranchi, June 26 (UNI) Union Minister for Textiles Giriraj Singh today visited the compressed bio-gas (CBG) plant operated by GAIL India in the Jhiri area of Ranchi and asked officials to bring the unit to full operational capacity.
Based on municipal solid waste, the plant has been functioning since January.
GAIL India officials provided a status report on the facility’s performance. At present, the plant processes 40 to 50 tonnes of municipal waste per day, producing 2 to 2.5 tonnes of compressed bio-gas. The stated goal is to raise input to 150 tonnes per day from Ranchi Municipal Corporation, which is expected to yield 5 tonnes of CBG and 25 tonnes of bio-fertiliser.
The minister held a review meeting with plant management and directed efforts towards scaling up operations. Emphasis was laid on enhancing fertiliser output and facilitating its distribution through cooperative channels such as IFFCO.
Upon arrival, the minister was received by plant officials and shown a presentation detailing the facility's six-month operational record. He later inspected key functional units of the plant, including waste segregation and bio-gas processing sections, and participated in a plantation activity on the premises.
Addressing the staff, Giriraj Singh stated that operational sustainability and scale are essential for the plant to achieve self-sufficiency and economic recovery. He said the working model could be extended to other locations once demonstrated over a consistent period.
The Jhiri CBG plant is among several units established under GAIL India’s waste-to-energy programme, aimed at municipal waste utilisation for energy generation and agricultural use. The project aligns with national efforts to build decentralised systems for waste management and alternative fuel production. UNI XC SSP
