World Skill Center, Bhubaneswar, recognised as Centre of Excellence-Skills by MSDE

Bhubaneswar, Nov 4(UNI) In a significant boost to Odisha’s skill development initiatives, the World Skill Center (WSC), Bhubaneswar, has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence-Skills (CoE-Skills) by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India.
With this recognition, the premier advanced skill training institute has joined the ranks of 19 institutions empanelled under the national framework.
The Certificate of Recognition was presented to the World Skill Center by Smt. Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, MSDE, at a ceremony held at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi, on November 2. The empanelment will remain valid for three years, from October 9, 2026, to October 8, 2029.
The World Skill Center has been recognised under the Multi-Sectoral category, acknowledging its institutional capacity to provide advanced, industry-oriented skill training across multiple domains. The empanelled institutions include nationally reputed organisations, institutions of national importance and specialised centres of excellence.
Established under the Department of Skill Development and Technical Education, Government of Odisha, the World Skill Center is equipped with modern, technology-enabled infrastructure and focuses on practical learning, advanced training and strong industry engagement to prepare young people for emerging employment opportunities.
Reacting to the recognition, Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra, CEO of the World Skill Center, said that the achievement marked an important milestone in the institution's journey towards contributing to India's evolving skill development landscape.
"Our focus is not only on developing a skilled workforce within Odisha but also on preparing young people to meet global industry standards and access opportunities across international markets," he said.
He further emphasised that through stronger industry partnerships, advanced training and institutional collaboration, the World Skill Center aims to contribute to Odisha's transition from 'Skilled in Odisha' to 'Skilled for the World', positioning the state as a source of globally competent and industry-ready talent.
Under the Centre of Excellence-Skills framework, recognised institutions are envisaged as advanced, sector-focused centres that will strengthen the country's broader skill development ecosystem. Their responsibilities include specialised training, skill assessment, mentorship, career guidance and capacity-building programmes for trainers and assessors.
For the World Skill Center, the recognition opens up opportunities to expand its institutional engagement beyond its existing training programmes and contribute more actively to national-level skill development initiatives. These initiatives may include specialised training programmes, trainer capacity-building, industry partnerships and collaborations with other skill development institutions.
The recognition is also significant in the context of Odisha's growing efforts to strengthen its position in advanced skill development. With greater participation in national-level skilling initiatives, the World Skill Center is expected to play an increasingly important role in promoting industry-responsive training, developing skilled human resources and creating wider career opportunities for the state's youth.
The achievement further reinforces Odisha's ambition to emerge as a leading hub of advanced skill development and a key contributor to India's growing pool of globally competitive, industry-ready professionals.
