Jharkhand Congress mobilises for November 1 rally on voting rights

Ranchi, Oct 27 (UNI) Jharkhand Congress president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh on Tuesday said the party's November 1 'Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao' rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi would be historic, accusing the BJP of undermining democracy and using constitutional institutions for political purposes.
Addressing a press conference, Kamlesh said district in-charges and senior leaders were conducting awareness campaigns across Jharkhand to mobilise party workers and citizens. He alleged that lakhs of voters in Bihar and West Bengal had been deprived of their voting rights.
Congress Legislature Party leader Pradeep Yadav accused the Election Commission of using the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to delete voters' names. He said Rahul Gandhi had exposed alleged "vote theft" and cited the removal of a Congress candidate's name from the electoral roll in Farakka, West Bengal, claiming it was restored following a Supreme Court order.
Yadav also alleged a difference of 39 lakh voters between Maharashtra's Lok Sabha and Assembly elections within six months. He questioned changes to Form 6, used for voter registration, and criticised changes to the selection panel for election commissioners, including the replacement of the Chief Justice of India with a union Cabinet minister.
The Congress leaders said the rally would defend voting rights and democratic institutions.
