Naveen Patnaik seeks immediate release of CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das

Bhubaneswar, Oct 20 (UNI) Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday called for the immediate release of CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, who are currently lodged in Tihar Jail, saying their prolonged detention over hoisting the national flag in a prohibited area warranted urgent judicial review.
In a post on social media platform X, Patnaik said the judicial custody of Ranka and Das must be reviewed urgently and the two leaders released immediately.
“Hoisting the National Flag, even in a prohibited area, should not warrant such prolonged detention,” the BJD supremo said.
Patnaik urged the judiciary and the executive to intervene to ensure that young people do not lose faith in the rule of law and their constitutional rights.
He stressed the need to uphold constitutional principles and ensure that the course of justice reinforces young people's faith in democratic institutions.
