BJD alleges breach of constitutional propriety over CM’s ABVP appeal

Bhubaneswar, Oct 19 (UNI) The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), on Monday, accused Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi of breaching constitutional propriety by allegedly using a government-sponsored programme in Cuttack to campaign for the BJP-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and urging students to join the organisation.
During a press conference at the BJD party headquarters, party MLA Dr Byomkesh Ray, Biju Yuva Janata Dal president Chinmay Sahu and Biju Chhatra Janata Dal president Ipsita Sahu alleged that the CM had turned an official event into a platform for partisan political campaigning.
The controversy centres on a youth leadership programme organised by the Sports and Youth Services Department at the Indoor Stadium in Cuttack for elected student representatives from colleges and universities across Odisha. Ray alleged that, while addressing the gathering, Majhi appealed to students to vote for ABVP and work with the organisation.
