Odisha SEC to launch statewide door-to-door voter survey from Oct 26 for 2027 panchayat ,municipal polls

Bhubaneswar, Oct 6 (UNI) The Odisha State Election Commission (SEC) will launch a statewide door-to-door voter survey from October 26 as part of an exercise to prepare an accurate, inclusive and error-free electoral roll for the 2027 panchayat and municipal elections, State Election Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi said on Tuesday.
Padhi made the announcement while chairing a meeting convened by the SEC with representatives of recognised political parties to discuss the preparation and revision of electoral rolls ahead of the elections.
He said an accurate and error-free electoral roll was the foundation of a healthy and transparent electoral system and stressed the need for transparency, neutrality and active participation of all stakeholders throughout the roll preparation process.
During the door-to-door survey, officials will verify voter details to ensure that all eligible voters are included in the electoral rolls and information relating to ineligible, shifted and deceased voters is properly verified.
The SEC urged all recognised political parties to extend active cooperation in the exercise and deploy their Booth Level Agents (BLAs) at all polling stations across the state to participate in the verification process.
Political parties have been asked to submit details of their BLAs by October 15 to the respective Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs).
In rural areas, the BLA details will be submitted to the Block Development Officers (BDOs), while in urban areas they will be submitted to the Executive Officers of NACs and municipalities and to Deputy Commissioners/Assistant Commissioners of municipal corporations.
Padhi said active participation of political parties would strengthen the verification process and help make the electoral rolls more reliable and free from errors.
The meeting also discussed voter cooperation during the door-to-door survey, collection and verification of voter information and the procedures for inclusion, deletion and correction of names in the electoral rolls.
The SEC called upon all stakeholders to remain vigilant and ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral rolls and no ineligible person finds a place in the voter list.
Representatives of various political parties put forward suggestions on the preparation and revision of the electoral rolls and assured the Commission of their cooperation in the statewide door-to-door survey.
The SEC said the entire electoral roll preparation process would be undertaken in accordance with prescribed rules and guidelines, with the objective of preparing a transparent, accurate and inclusive voter list through coordinated efforts of political parties, the administration and voters.
