Agartala: Six held for murder, love triangle suspected

Agartala, June 12 (UNI) The police on Thursday produced a medical graduate from Bangladesh along with five others, including his parents, before a local court here seeking their custody for killing a 24 year-old youth in Indranagar area of the city and storing the body in an ice-cream freezer.

The police suspect the murder was a result of a love triangle.

Based on the statement of the prime accused, Dibakar Saha (29), the police on Wednesday found the body in a fridge -- stuffed in a bag. Saha reportedly admitted to the crime and stated that he, along with Animesh Yadav (21), Nabanit Das (25), and Jaydeep Das (20), strangulated Sariful Islam, an electrician of Agartala Smart City Project, to death on June 8 night.

The police said they packed the body, dismembered it, and kept the body parts in a trolley bag during the night. Saha informed his parents, Dipak Saha (52) and Debika Saha (48), who were staying in Gandacherra under Dhalai district. The couple came and transported the body in a hired vehicle to their place on June 9, and stored the bag in the ice-cream freezer.

All six accused were arrested on Wednesday and produced in the court.

“It appears the parents didn’t get the chance to dispose of the body and kept it in the fridge to avoid smell,” police said, adding that the incident stemmed from a love triangle.

Dibakar had invited Sariful to his residence in Indranagar for handing over a gift, and the murder took place there.

The police said Sariful was in a relationship with a girl who is the cousin of Dibakar Saha. Dibakar was reportedly also infatuated with the same girl, which fueled the tension between the two men.

"Driven by jealousy and resentment, Dibakar conspired to eliminate his romantic rival," said a police officer.
