As vote count proceeds, blast kills minor girl in Bengal's Nadia

Kolkata, June 23 (UNI) A 10-year-old-girl was on Monday killed while a group of unidentified miscreants hurled a deadly socket bomb at Molandi area under Kaligunj assembly constituency in West Bengal's Nadia district where the counting of votes for June 19 bypoll was in progress, official sources said.
The victim's mother alleged that TMC supporters while celebrating the victory of their party candidate Alifa Ahmed had hurled a bomb in which her daughter Tamanna Khatun, a class IV student, was killed on the spot.
The mother and her victim daughter were going to a nearby water body for a bath.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed deep shock at the death of the girl.
"I am shocked and deeply saddened at the death of a young girl in an explosion at Barochandgar in the Krishnanagar police district," Banerjee said.
"My prayers and thoughts are with the family in their hour of grief. Police shall take strong and decisive and legal action against the culprits," the CM said.
Meanwhile, the ECI has sought a report on the blast and the death of the girl from the Nadia district authorities.
The local police have arrested a suspect in the crime.
Meanwhile, the counting of votes for June 19 bypoll for Kaliganj assembly seat was in progress in which TMC candidate Alifa Ahmed has taken an unassailable lead over her BJP and Congress candidates.
