Humayun Kabir detained after clash with police in Rejinagar

Rejinagar, Oct 6 (UNI) Aam Janata Unnayan Party chief Humayun Kabir was detained by police on Tuesday after he repeatedly criticised the force during polling in Rejinagar, West Bengal, and later clashed with police personnel at his party office.
Kabir had been targeting the police since the morning while on his way to cast his vote.
After voting, he continued to make strong remarks against the force outside the polling station and later at his party office.
Police reached the Aam Janata Unnayan Party office in Rejinagar shortly after Kabir arrived there.
An argument broke out between him and the police personnel, during which he was heard telling the officers, "Do not act as brokers."
The exchange soon turned into a scuffle.
Police personnel eventually pulled Kabir by his clothes and put him into a vehicle before taking him to the police station.
Earlier in the day, Kabir had alleged that police personnel had been deployed outside his residence since the morning.
He also criticised the police while standing in the queue to vote and continued his attack after casting his ballot.
He also warned local residents against what he alleged was police interference during polling.
"Are the police beyond reproach? Will Suvendu Adhikari's police take away people's rights in the name of elections? Even after arresting 64 of our people, they have not had enough," Kabir said.
He further appealed to residents to resist the police, saying, "I will tell people to stand up against them with cudgels. If the police come to beat me, do you think I will let them go?"
Kabir subsequently left for his party office.
Police arrived there soon afterwards, leading to the confrontation and his eventual detention.
