Bangladesh’s PCJSS arms commander arrested in Agartala

Agartala, Oct 6 (UNI) Tripura Police arrested a Bangladeshi national and arms commander of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) during a raid at Heritage Park in Agartala on Monday evening, police said here on Tuesday.
The arrested individual has been identified as Shyamal Kanti Chakma, alias Toru, who is reportedly associated with the PCJSS under the leadership of Santu Larma. Police said personnel from the NCC police station in Agartala detained Chakma while members of the PCJSS were allegedly holding a meeting at Heritage Park.
However, two of his associates, Mithan Chakma and Jyotishman Chakma, allegedly fled the scene.
According to reports, Chakma previously led a vigilante group known as the “Mukhosh Bahini” in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hill Tracts. He allegedly joined the PCJSS in January 2026, carrying around 50 advanced weapons.
Chakma is also said to have links with Bangladesh’s Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). Sources said PCJSS president Santu Larma, who heads the CHT Regional Council, had tasked him with maintaining communication with the Bangladesh Army.
The arrested person reportedly worked with another PCJSS arms commander, Samaj Priyo Chakma, who was detained in Agartala’s AD Nagar area in January 2025. During Samaj Priyo Chakma’s arrest, police seized a 9mm pistol, live ammunition, Rs 2.21 lakh in Indian currency, Tk 25,000 in Bangladeshi currency, and two smartphones.
He is currently facing trial in Agartala.
Chakma’s arrest has reportedly caused unease among PCJSS armed cadres allegedly operating in Tripura. Police have not yet released further details about the case or the charges against the arrested person.
