Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi looking forward to band’s upcoming final performance

London, June 11 (UNI) Legendary heavy metal guitarist and founder of the genre’s pioneers, Tony Iommi, has said the upcoming 'Back to the Beginning Tour', which will mark the band’s final performance, has left him feeling a sense of “excitement mixed with fear.”

Admitting his tensions regarding the July 5 concert scheduled in Birmingham, the ‘Godfather of Heavy Metal’ told Music Week in an interview said "This would be a big, monumental thing if it all comes good."

"The worrying thing for me is the unknown. We don't know what's going to happen,” he added.

"Normally, when we'd tour, we'd rehearse and run through the thing for a while, and it's just us. But with this event there are so many other moving parts."

Formed in 1968 in England by Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, Geezer Butler, and Ozzy Osbourne, the band are regarded as the creators of heavy metal, with Tony Iommi’s guitar playing – a mix of blues and slow heavy ‘evil’ riffs – setting the genre’s foundation, and the becoming the blueprint for many future bands.

Iommi himself has been referred to the ‘Godfather of Heavy Metal’ for his guitar style which changed the music world forever, and continues to be regarded as one of the all-time-greatest guitarists of all time, being cited as an inspiration by many other revered guitarists from all across the field such as Eddie Van Halen, Slash, Dimebag Darrel, Scott Ian, Jerry Cantrell, Steve Vai, Buzz Osbourne, Adam Jones, John Petrucci, Brian May, Kirk Hammet, James Hetfield, Dave Mustaine, Mikael Akerfeldt, Tom Morello, Jeff Hanneman, Andy La Roque, Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, Buckethead, and countless others.

Ozzy Osbourne has also stated that he won't be able to do a full set with Sabbath due to his ill-health, but promises that he will try to do "little bits and pieces" on the night.

"You're used to Ozzy running around, but he certainly won't be doing that for this show," Iommi states in Music Week. "I don't know if he's going to be standing or sitting on a throne or what."

Emphasising that the show will mark the end of the band, he said “It’s absolutely the end.

“This show has come up because of the situation (with Osbourne’s illness) and because it’s a charity thing. But there’s no way we could go out and do a tour.

"Everybody in the band is looking forward to doing it, though it’s a nerve-wracking thing, as we’ll be touching on some stuff that we haven’t done for a long time.”
