The women in 'Chumbak' are not just supporting characters: Sandeepa Dhar

Mumbai, Sep 28 (UNI) Actress Sandeepa Dhar says what drew her to "Chumbak" was the way its women characters have been written, particularly in a genre where female roles are often placed on the sidelines.
Speaking about her decision to be a part of the show, Dhar said, "I was excited about this show because it doesn't portray women in a stereotypical way. Usually, in comedies, men have all the comic parts, while women are just supporting characters. But that's not the case here."
Citing the example of Helly Shah's character Twinkle, she said, "Here we have Twinkle, whose comedy is the best in the show."
The 37-year-old actress also praised the effort to portray characters who break with traditional gender roles. She said, "We're not just showing women sitting around cooking or serving food to men. Aatish has done this very thoughtfully. He made sure we didn't follow traditional gender roles."
The "Bisaat" actress said that she found the writing different and refreshing when she read the script. "When I was reading the script, I thought it was really refreshing to see someone write women characters like this," she said.
In "Chumbak", female characters have been given an active role and comic space in the story, which Dhar described as a different approach in terms of comedy.
