'Will always be Dolly Parton's fan': Taylor Swift’s heartfelt tribute at VMAs 2026, makes history as the most awarded artist

Los Angeles, Sep 28 (UNI) American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift paid a heartfelt tribute to late music icon Dolly Parton at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, while also making history as the most-awarded artist in the ceremony’s history.
Swift expressed admiration for Parton’s legacy and thanked her fans and MTV as she accepted multiple honours.
Upon receiving one of her awards, she said that she would be a fan of Dolly Parton for life.
“Everything that happened in her life or her career, she channeled back into love and gratitude and appreciation for her fans," she said, as Variety reported.
Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80 after a “brief battle” with cancer at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Centre in Nashville on August 25.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, at MTV VMAS, Taylor Swift made history as she surpassed Beyonce to become the most-awarded artist in the show’s history.
The pop star accepted the inaugural artist director honour, took home the biggest award of the night, “Video of the Year”, and debuted her new music video, The Hollywood Reporter stated.
American singer-songwriter’s “The Life of a Showgirl” was basically introduced by her friend and actress Dakota Johnson.
“Taylor Swift is a storyteller. She is an architect of emotional landscapes filled with the most intimate and intricate details,” Johnson told the crowd while praising Swift.
Significantly, Dakota Johnson also pointed out that the singer is the “most decorated artist” in the VMAs’ history. Before the actress invited Swift to the stage to accept her accolade, a video package showing her work as a music video director was also playing in the background. She also stopped to hug the Off Campus star Ella Bright prior to making her way up to the stage.
Taylor Swift expressed gratitude to MTV for championing music videos and providing a platform for the art form “so long ago,” prior to expressing her appreciation to her fans. The singer also revealed that she has been involved in the creation of 60 music videos throughout her career, including 18 that she wrote and directed herself. She then introduced the music video for her latest single, “Patient Zero,” which stars Dakota Johnson and Irish actor Colin Farrell.
