Jackie Shroff honours Lata Mangeshkar on her birth anniversary, says ‘Lata ji will always be in our hearts’

Mumbai, Sep 28 (UNI) Veteran actor Jackie Shroff paid heartfelt tribute to legendary singer and Nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar on her 97th birth anniversary.
The actor took to Instagram, where he shared a video montage featuring many rare and memorable pictures of Lata Mangeshkar from different phases of her life. The story mentioned her iconic song “Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai”, with the caption written “Lata ji always in our hearts,”, along with the hashtag #LataMangeshkar.
The tribute basically comes on the Nightingale of India’s 97th birth anniversary. She was born on September 28, 1929, and went on to becoming one of the most influential playback singers in Indian cinema, with a career spanning several decades.
Lata Mangeshkar began performing at a very young age and, following her father’s death in 1942, became the family’s principal breadwinner at just 13.
Widely revered as Lata Didi and the “Nightingale of India,” Mangeshkar was a transformative figure in Indian music whose voice became synonymous with generations of Hindi cinema. Beginning her journey in the 1940s, she went on to leave an indelible mark on Hindi, Marathi and several other Indian-language music traditions. During her career, she recorded songs in over 36 Indian languages, cementing her legacy as one of the most influential voices in Indian music.
Notably, the legendary singer gave her voice to thousands of song collaborations and worked with exceptional composers such as Naushad, S.D. Burman, R.D. Burman, Madan Mohan, Laxmikant-Pyarelal and A.R. Rahman.
Her celebrated music included songs like “Aayega Aanewala” from Mahal, “Aaja Re Pardesi” from Madhumati, “Lag Jaa Gale” from Woh Kaun Thi?, “Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya” from Mughal-e-Azam, “Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh” from Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai, and “Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon.” These tracks remain emotional landmarks in India’s musical history.
Therefore, the Nightingale of India’s excellence earned her prestigious awards including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989, the Padma Bhushan in 1969, the Padma Vibhushan in 1999, and the Bharat Ratna in 2001, acknowledging her artistic achievements and contributions towards Indian cultural identity.
Lata Mangeshkar passed away in Mumbai on February 6, 2022, at the age of 92, reportedly complications after COVID-19. She left behind a vast legacy that continues to resonate generations.
