Safai workers’ welfare issues take centre stage at MCD West Zone review

New Delhi, Oct 8 (UNI) Pending arrears, regularisation and medical facilities for sanitation workers came under review during a meeting held by Delhi Safai Karamchari Aayog Chairperson Sunita Kangra with officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) West Zone, officials said on Thursday.
Kangra visited the West Zone to review sanitation work and matters concerning Safai Karamcharis. The meeting was co-chaired by West Zone Chairman Harish Oberoi and the Deputy Commissioner of the zone and attended by senior sanitation officials, the Assistant Commissioner and representatives of Safai Karamchari unions.
Union representatives raised issues related to regularisation, pending dues, medical facilities and other service-related matters. The concerns were discussed with the civic administration during the meeting, officials said.
Kangra also reviewed the functioning of the sanitation department and the steps being taken to address workers’ concerns. She stressed the need for continued coordination between the administration, sanitation staff and union representatives to improve working conditions and ensure effective delivery of sanitation services.
The Aayog chairperson also took note of sanitation-related practices being followed in the West Zone and said successful models could be shared with other MCD zones for wider adoption.
The meeting comes amid continuing demands from sanitation workers over service conditions and welfare measures. The discussions focused on addressing pending issues while improving sanitation services in the zone.
During her visit, Kangra also planted a sapling at the West Zone premises under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative.
