PM Modi salutes Air Warriors on Air Force Day, hails courage in guarding India’s skies

New Delhi, Oct 8 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday saluted the courage and commitment of the Indian Air Force personnel on Air Force Day, saying the nation was proud of its “Air Warriors” and their dedicated role in safeguarding India’s skies.
In a message posted on social media platform X, Modi said, “India is proud of our Air Warriors. On Air Force Day, we salute their courage and commitment to protect our skies!”
Air Force Day is observed every year on October 8 to commemorate the establishment of the Indian Air Force in 1932 and to honour the service, sacrifice and professionalism of its personnel. The occasion is marked by ceremonial events and air displays that showcase the force’s operational capabilities while paying tribute to serving personnel, veterans and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Prime Minister’s message came as the Indian Air Force remains a key pillar of India’s national security architecture, with its responsibilities extending beyond the protection of the country’s airspace to maintaining air superiority, strategic airlift, surveillance, humanitarian assistance and disaster-relief operations.
Established in 1932 as the Royal Indian Air Force during the British period, the force adopted its present name after Independence and has since evolved into a modern and technologically advanced military aviation force. Its capabilities encompass fighter aircraft, transport platforms, helicopters, unmanned systems and sophisticated air-defence and surveillance assets.
Air Force Day also serves as an occasion to remember the sacrifices of personnel who have laid down their lives in the service of the nation. Serving officers and air warriors, veterans and their families traditionally come together for events that highlight the force’s operational preparedness, professionalism and technological capabilities.
Modi’s message underscored the government’s emphasis on recognising the contribution of India’s armed forces to national security and expressing gratitude to the personnel entrusted with protecting the country’s skies. The Prime Minister’s tribute came on a day when the nation honours the Indian Air Force not only for its combat role but also for its continuing contribution to humanitarian assistance, disaster response and other missions in the service of the country.
