CCEA clears Rs 10,783-cr rail expansion projects across five States, adds 656 km to network

New Delhi, Sep 9 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved three multitracking projects of the Ministry of Railways at an estimated cost of Rs 10,783 crore, in a major capacity expansion push aimed at easing congestion and strengthening passenger and freight connectivity across five states.
The projects comprise the Kharagpur-Jharsuguda (Bagdehi) fourth line, Katni-Pendra Road fourth line and Bilaspur (Uslapur)-Pendra Road third line. Together, they will cover 14 districts in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh and add approximately 656 km to the Indian Railways network. The projects are scheduled to be completed by 2029-30.
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw said the additional railway capacity would improve operational efficiency and service reliability while helping decongest key routes. The multitracking works are expected to facilitate smoother train movement and strengthen the overall capacity of the railway network in the region.
