Rekha Gupta launches 53 civic projects worth Rs 14 crore in unauthorised colonies

New Delhi, Sep 27 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today launched 53 development projects worth Rs 214.12 crore in unauthorised colonies across five Assembly constituencies, promising permanent solutions to long-pending civic problems, including waterlogging, poor roads and inadequate drainage.
The projects, launched under the Delhi Government’s Seva Sankalp campaign, will benefit around 1.75 lakh residents in Kirari, Bawana, Mundka, Narela and Nangloi Jat, with a focus on strengthening basic infrastructure and improving local connectivity.
The proposed works include the development of 1,062 roads and lanes across 27 unauthorised colonies, along with 89.82 km of roads and 147.69 km of drainage network.
“Development will reach every lane and every household in Delhi, and long-pending problems will be permanently resolved,” Gupta said, emphasising that the government was committed to ensuring that essential civic amenities reached every part of the capital.
She said roads, drains, sewerage and drainage were basic rights of citizens and that development works were now being undertaken in a planned manner in areas that had faced infrastructure-related problems for years.
The Chief Minister said the government was focusing on implementing projects on the ground within stipulated timelines rather than limiting itself to announcements and schemes.
Referring to the government's development agenda, she said the objective was to fulfil the basic needs of every locality and Assembly constituency and realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a ‘Viksit Delhi’.
Gupta added that development works had gained momentum following the change of government in Delhi after 27 years, with the administration working towards resolving long-pending civic issues.
Kirari will receive the largest share of the projects, with 27 works worth Rs 105.51 crore planned across 14 unauthorised colonies. The works will cover 640 roads and lanes, 50.71 km of roads and 101.42 km of drainage network.
In Bawana, nine projects worth Rs 38.83 crore will be undertaken, while Mundka will receive five works worth Rs 22.05 crore. Four projects worth Rs14.48 crore have been earmarked for Narela and eight works worth Rs 33.25 crore for Nangloi Jat.
The proposed stormwater drainage networks are expected to improve water discharge and reduce waterlogging, while the development of paved roads and lanes will improve neighbourhood connectivity and help reduce dust from damaged and unpaved surfaces.
Delhi PWD and Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said the government was committed to extending development beyond major roads and ensuring that unauthorised colonies also received improved civic infrastructure.
“The pace of development will not remain confined to main roads, but will reach every lane and household in unauthorised colonies,” he said.
He described the projects as an important step towards addressing problems that had remained unresolved for years and said the government was working to improve road, sewerage and drainage infrastructure in these areas.
Social Welfare Minister Ravindra Indraj Singh said uniform development across all Assembly constituencies was a priority for the Delhi Government.
Referring to Kirari, he alleged that adequate attention had not been paid to development works in the area during the previous government's tenure, despite the Aam Aadmi Party remaining in power for a long period and continuing to represent the constituency.
He said Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had now made a budget of Rs 105 crore available for Kirari, adding that development and budget allocation would not be influenced by whether a constituency was represented by an AAP or BJP legislator. UNI PWS SS
