INTACH exhibition to explore artistic and cultural significance of Chhath

New Delhi, Sep 27 (UNI) The artistic, cultural, and ritual traditions associated with the Chhath festival and Sun worship will be showcased through a collection of Mithila artworks and crafts at an exhibition being organised by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH).
Titled “Arghya”, the exhibition will open on September 28 at INTACH headquarters in Lodhi Estate and will remain open to visitors till October 1. It will feature original Mithila artworks and crafts depicting rituals, traditions and community practices associated with Chhath.
According to INTACH, the exhibition seeks to highlight the relationship between art, ritual, community and cultural memory, while documenting living traditions associated with the festival. The distinctive visual language of Mithila art and craft will be used to present practices that have been transmitted across generations.
Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh will inaugurate the exhibition at 11 am on September 28 in the presence of INTACH chairman Ashok Singh Thakur and member secretary Ravindra Singh, IAS (retd).
A symposium on “History and Significance of Chhath Festival – Sun Worship” will also be held at the INTACH headquarters on September 30. The session will examine the historical, sculptural, architectural and iconographic aspects of Sun worship, besides discussing its continuing traditions.
The exhibition has been organised by INTACH’s Heritage Craft and Community Division. It will be open to visitors from 10.30 am to 6 pm between September 28 and October 1 at 71, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi.
