Army trains 50 Civil Defence Master Trainers to strengthen emergency preparedness

New Delhi, Nov 3 (UNI) The Indian Army has launched a joint initiative with the Directorate General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards (DG FSCDHG) to strengthen military-civil coordination and enhance the country's preparedness to deal with emerging security challenges and emergencies.
As part of the initiative, Headquarters Delhi Area, in collaboration with DG FSCDHG, conducted a three-day pilot training programme for 50 Civil Defence Master Trainers at Delhi Cantonment from October 22 to 24 under the ‘Train with Your Army Camp’ initiative.
The programme, conducted in accordance with Prime Minister's Office directives, is part of a broader plan to train Civil Defence volunteers across 12 States and union Territories. It aims to create a pool of trained master trainers who can further impart specialised skills and strengthen preparedness at the grassroots level.
Lieutenant General Rajesh Sethi, General Officer Commanding, Delhi Area, while addressing the participants, emphasised the need for a trained and responsive Civil Defence network capable of supporting emergency response operations and addressing evolving security threats.
Sunil Kumar Jha of DG FSCDHG also addressed the participants, highlighting the importance of coordinated preparedness and an effective institutional response to emergencies.
The training programme covered a wide range of subjects, including drone and counter-drone awareness, air raid preparedness, protection of critical infrastructure, fire safety, chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) awareness, casualty management, search and rescue operations, emergency communication and cyber hygiene.
The participants underwent classroom sessions, practical demonstrations, hands-on training and mock drills conducted by teams from the Indian Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Delhi Fire Services. The exercises were designed to familiarise them with emergency response procedures and improve their ability to respond effectively during crisis situations.
The initiative assumes significance against the backdrop of the changing character of modern conflicts, which increasingly demand closer coordination between military formations and civilian agencies, particularly in protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring the safety of communities.
The Army said the programme reinforced the concept of a ‘Whole-of-Nation’ approach to national preparedness and strengthened military-civil fusion through greater institutional coordination.
The trained master trainers are expected to further disseminate Civil Defence awareness and skills among volunteers in their respective States and union Territories, helping build a wider network of trained personnel and improve community-level resilience during emergencies.
