Rajnath Singh calls for stronger India-Sri Lanka maritime partnership to secure Indian Ocean

New Delhi, Sep 9 (UNI) Secure sea lanes, freedom of navigation, respect for international law and uninterrupted maritime trade are crucial to ensuring collective security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday, calling for closer maritime cooperation between India and Sri Lanka.
Addressing Sri Lankan Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara, the commanders of the Sri Lankan Army, Navy and Air Force and senior officials at the Ministry of Defence in Colombo, Singh said both countries were well placed to jointly safeguard peace, security and stability in the region.
“Secure sea lanes, freedom of navigation, respect for international law and unhindered maritime trade are pivotal for collective security and prosperity of the Indian Ocean Region,” Singh said.

CJP protest: SC declines to reconstitute Justice Reddy-led panel probing July violence

New Delhi, Sep 16 (UNI) The Supreme Court has declined to reconstitute the five-member High-Powered Enquiry Committee (HPEC) headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice R. Subhash Reddy, which was set up on August 18, 2026, to probe allegations of police excesses during the July 20 crackdown on student protesters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and elsewhere in the country. The protesters, mobilised by the Cockroach Janata Party, were demanding the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged question-paper leaks in NEET and other examinations.
