SFI alleges reservation violations in JNU PhD admissions, seeks immediate rectification

New Delhi, Oct 28 (UNI) The Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Delhi, on Wednesday alleged serious discrepancies in the implementation of statutory reservation in Jawaharlal Nehru University’s (JNU) PhD admissions for the 2026–27 academic session, claiming that the university has advertised fewer seats than mandated for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).
The student organisation said its complaints to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) and the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) had triggered action and demanded immediate rectification of the alleged violations in the ongoing admission cycle.
Addressing a press conference at the Press Club of India, former Rajya Sabha MP Brinda Karat, former West Bengal Minister for Tribal Affairs Debalina Hembram, SFI All India President Adarsh M Saji, SFI All India Joint Secretary and former JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh, JNUSU Vice-President Gopika Babu and SFI JNU Secretary Sagar Singal raised concerns over the university’s implementation of reservation norms.
