India to stand firmly with Sri Lanka in every crisis: Rajnath Singh

New Delhi, Sep 8 (UNI) India will always stand firmly with Sri Lanka whenever the island nation faces a crisis, declared Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said today as he began his maiden visit to the neighbouring country.
Addressing the Indian diaspora in Colombo, he underlined the deep cultural and civilisational links between India and Sri Lanka, describing them as the foundation of the growing bilateral relationship.
Highlighting India's economic transformation, Singh said the country's economy has doubled from around USD 2 trillion in 2014 to approximately USD 4 trillion over the past decade. India, he said, remains among the fastest-growing major economies and accounted for more than 16 per cent of global growth. The economy expanded 7.8 per cent in the first quarter of FY 2026-27 despite global economic challenges.

CJP protest: SC declines to reconstitute Justice Reddy-led panel probing July violence

New Delhi, Sep 16 (UNI) The Supreme Court has declined to reconstitute the five-member High-Powered Enquiry Committee (HPEC) headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice R. Subhash Reddy, which was set up on August 18, 2026, to probe allegations of police excesses during the July 20 crackdown on student protesters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and elsewhere in the country. The protesters, mobilised by the Cockroach Janata Party, were demanding the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged question-paper leaks in NEET and other examinations.
