SC issues notice on Tarun Tejpal’s appeal against conviction; also on Goa govt's plea for life term

New Delhi, Sep 25 (UNI) The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Goa government on an appeal by former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal challenging the Bombay High Court judgment convicting him in the 2013 sexual assault case and sentencing him to 10 years’ imprisonment. The court also issued notice to Tejpal on the State government’s separate appeal seeking enhancement of his sentence to life imprisonment.

New Delhi, Sep 28 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea seeking directions to the West Bengal Assembly Speaker to decide petitions for disqualification of 10 rebel Trinamool Congress MLAs, observing that there was no reason to doubt that the Speaker would take a decision within a reasonable period and that courts themselves should be mindful of delays in deciding cases before prescribing rigid timelines for other constitutional authorities.
