PM Modi announces Project Rhino, hails Assam’s role in global Rhino conservation

New Delhi, Sep 22 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced the initiation of “Project Rhino” to provide financial and technical support to states for the protection and conservation of the greater one-horned rhinoceros, as he marked World Rhino Day by highlighting India’s efforts to safeguard the species.
In a post on social media platform X, Modi said Assam had emerged as a major global stronghold for the greater one-horned rhinoceros, with nearly 80 per cent of the world’s rhino population, and praised the efforts at Kaziranga to curb poaching.
“On World Rhino Day, we celebrate the magnificent greater one-horned rhinoceros and laud all those at the forefront of its protection,” Modi said.
