'Only Indians will vote, not infiltrators', says BJP; accuses Congress of ‘lying’ and ‘mocking’ Parliament

New Delhi, Oct 31 (UNI) Responding to the INDIA bloc’s ‘public impeachment’ of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, the BJP on Saturday accused the Opposition of “disrespecting” Parliament and “democracy” and “lying”.
BJP MP Sambit Patra said repeating a lie does not make it a truth.
Addressing Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who led the symbolic public impeachment at the ‘mock Parliament’ at his residence, Patra said, “Kharge ji, by repeatedly telling lies, you cannot prove Rahul Gandhi’s claims to be true.”
“See how the Congress party and its allies are making a mockery of democracy today. The Congress party itself has said that it is holding a mock Parliament. The word ‘mock’ means discussing an issue in a mocking manner,” he said.
Patra said the Election Commission’s decision on the issue was unanimous. “The Chief Election Commissioner and the two other Commissioners sat together, released a photograph and issued a statement explicitly declaring that the decision was unanimous.
"Furthermore, the affidavit submitted following the Supreme Court’s notice also clearly states this,” he said.
Asserting that the electoral roll revision was necessary to ensure that “only an Indian shall vote, an infiltrator shall not”, he said voters whose names were missing from the electoral rolls can always apply through Form 6 which “had not been amended.”
“A declaration form was simply added alongside Form 6,” he said, accusing Kharge of “misinforming” people.
Defending the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Patra said it had helped remove the names of deceased persons from electoral rolls and prevent ‘ghost voting’ in the last election in West Bengal. He claimed that earlier Trinamool Congress workers had used the names of deceased voters to cast votes.
Patra said six crore people who had permanently relocated had already applied for fresh registration, while others were completing the process through Form 6. Even voters marked as ‘absent’ could re-register, he added.
He also accused some people of deliberately avoiding enumeration forms and notices despite being aware of the procedure while pointing to “bizarre discrepancies” in voter records.
In this context he cited instances where a father was reportedly only five years older than his son while a couple had 12 children within six years of marriage.
People suspected of being illegal immigrants were refusing to respond to notices seeking clarification, he said, and accused the INDIA bloc of opposing electoral roll revision despite similar exercises having been undertaken during previous Congress governments.
“I would like to tell Kharge ji, if there was ever a vote theft in India, it was committed by the first member of the Gandhi family, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
"Leaders had cast their votes to elect Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as Prime Minister. By stealing those votes, Pandit Nehru became the Prime Minister of the country, an unelected Prime Minister,” he claimed.
