Congress names five candidates for Bihar Legislative Council biennial elections

New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) The Congress on Thursday announced five candidates for the ensuing biennial elections to the Bihar Legislative Council from the Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies, with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge approving the party’s nominees.
According to an AICC press release, the party has fielded Madan Mohan Jha from the Darbhanga Teachers’ constituency, Manoj Kumar Jaiswal from the Kosi Graduates’ constituency, Rajnikant Pathak from the Darbhanga Graduates’ constituency, Sanjay Yadav from the Patna Teachers’ constituency and Asadullah Khan from the Patna Graduates’ constituency.
The announcement comes as political parties prepare for the biennial elections to the Bihar Legislative Council, which include constituencies representing specific groups such as graduates and teachers.
Unlike elections to the Assembly, these constituencies have a restricted electorate comprising eligible voters from the respective categories.
The five constituencies span the Darbhanga, Kosi and Patna regions, giving the Congress nominees a presence across important parts of north and central Bihar.
The elections will be closely watched in the context of the broader political contest in the state, where parties are seeking to consolidate their support among different sections of the electorate.
The announcement also sets the stage for campaigning in the Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies, where candidates traditionally focus on issues concerning education, employment, professional opportunities, public institutions and the concerns of teachers and graduates.
