Kharge seizes on reported ECI dissent, revives demand for Gyanesh Kumar's removal

New Delhi, Sep 23 (UNI) Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday stepped up his attack on the Election Commission of India, saying reported written objections by two of the three Election Commissioners to decisions concerning electoral rolls had vindicated concerns repeatedly raised by the Congress and other Opposition parties over the functioning of the poll panel.
In a post on social media platform X, Kharge said the Congress and several Opposition parties had for years questioned the fairness of elections and the role of the Election Commission, but their concerns had been dismissed and the Commission had "shut its doors" to them.
"Today, the same issue has come to light from within the Election Commission itself," he said, referring to an Indian Express investigation which reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had recorded objections at least 14 times over 10 months to decisions and orders concerning voter registration, deletion and restoration of names, Form 6 and the management of electoral-roll systems.
