BJP using ‘Emergency Narrative’ to distract its governance failures: Kharge

New Delhi, June 25 (UNI) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, in a sharp attack on the Modi government today, said the BJP is visibly rattled by the nationwide 'Save the Constitution' movement led by Rahul Gandhi and is using the “Emergency narrative” as a distraction from its failures in governance.

Addressing a press conference here, Kharge alleged that those who had no role in India's freedom struggle or the framing of the Constitution are now making loud proclamations about democracy.

“The very Constitution drafted by Babasaheb Ambedkar, Pandit Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, and the Constituent Assembly was once burned by RSS members at Ramleela Maidan. They even burned effigies of Ambedkar, Nehru, and Gandhi, claiming the Constitution lacked elements of Manusmriti and traditional culture,” he said.

Alleging that the BJP government handing over wealth of the country to few industrialists at the cost of the masses, Kharge said, “The poor are getting poorer, the rich richer. Modi is handing over the nation’s wealth to his friends,” he said, calling the current situation an “undeclared Emergency.”

He added that the government is trying to hide its failures on inflation, unemployment, corruption, and economic distress by deflecting public attention with manufactured distractions.

“At a time when Rahul Gandhi is touring the country, energising people through the ‘Save the Constitution’ campaign, Prime Minister Modi is resorting to theatrical tactics to kill that momentum,” Kharge said.

The Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha in a sharp political swipe, questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence over repeated claims made by former US President Donald Trump, who said he prevented a war between India and Pakistan.

“Trump didn’t make this claim just once or twice—he said it 17 times. Yet, not a single word came from Narendra Modi,” he said, accusing the Prime Minister of being fearful of Trump while aspiring to be seen as a 'Vishwaguru' or global leader.

He also criticised Modi for allegedly promoting Trump’s re-election campaign during his US visit by raising the slogan “Abki Baar, Trump Sarkar.”

“It’s ironic that someone with so many shortcomings still wants to be seen as a hero,” Kharge said.
