One PM empowered youth, another wants to snatch their vote: Jairam Ramesh

New Delhi, Sep 25 (UNI) Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh on Friday invoked the contrasting records of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on youth participation in elections, accusing the Modi government of keeping the enrolment of a new generation of voters in limbo.
Calling it a "Tale of Two PMs", Ramesh recalled that Parliament had amended Article 326 of the Constitution in December 1988 during Rajiv Gandhi's tenure to reduce the voting age from 21 to 18 years.
"One PM got Parliament in its regular Winter Session in Dec 1988 to amend Article 326 of the Constitution to reduce the minimum age for voting from 21 years to 18 years. This was a PM who empowered the youth," Ramesh said in a post on X.
