Gurugram steps up pollution control measures, targets construction dust, waste burning, illegal firecracker sales

Gurugram, Oct 15 (UNI) The Gurugram administration on Thursday stepped up measures to curb air pollution, targeting construction dust, open waste burning, illegal dumping and unauthorised firecracker sales, while putting departments on alert for restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh, chairing a joint review meeting at the Mini Secretariat, asked civic agencies and pollution control authorities to ensure compliance with Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) guidelines, strengthen monitoring and address pollution complaints within prescribed timelines.
Construction projects covered by the regulations must be registered on the Haryana State Pollution Control Board's portal and install anti-smog guns wherever mandated. Singh called for regular site inspections and proper collection, transportation and disposal of construction debris.
Road-maintenance agencies were asked to prioritise mechanical sweeping, water sprinkling, pothole repairs and roadside greening, particularly in dust-prone areas.
Reviewing waste management, the Deputy Commissioner stressed regular garbage collection, segregation of wet and dry waste and proper disposal of industrial refuse.
At the Bandhwari landfill, he reviewed legacy waste disposal and called for adequate surveillance and firefighting arrangements to prevent fires.
Open burning of garbage and biomass, along with illegal dumping, would invite action under applicable rules.
The meeting also reviewed compliance with court orders on firecrackers, including checks on illegal storage and sale.
Singh asked departments to complete preparations for different GRAP stages, keep monitoring teams operational and submit timely reports on decisions taken at previous meetings.
He also emphasised public awareness and coordination among agencies to ensure that pollution-control measures are implemented effectively across the district.
