Haryana offers Rs 1,200 per acre to farmers for stubble management, steps up surveillance against farm fires

Jhajjar, Oct 20 (UNI) The Jhajjar administration has intensified its drive against stubble burning, offering farmers an incentive of Rs 1,200 per acre for incorporating crop residue into the soil while ordering stricter surveillance to curb farm fires and protect air quality.
Deputy Commissioner Varsha Khangwal directed officials to keep quick response teams operational, conduct regular field inspections and take immediate action against stubble-burning incidents and other sources of pollution.
"Burning crop residue not only pollutes the environment but also adversely affects soil fertility," Khangwal said, urging farmers to adopt scientific and alternative residue management practices.
She said the Agriculture Department was providing Rs 1,200 per acre under the crop residue management programme to farmers who incorporate stubble into their fields instead of burning it.
Officials have been instructed to identify vulnerable areas, strengthen preventive measures, and use drones wherever necessary to monitor potential sources of pollution.
Khangwal also called for effective use of the Bhuvan application and implementation of the Crop Residue Management (CRM) scheme to improve monitoring and enforcement.
She directed officials to involve village panchayats and local representatives in awareness campaigns and ensure that farmers receive information about government incentives and available residue management technologies.
Warning that negligence in preventing stubble-burning incidents would not be tolerated, Khangwal said violations would invite action under the applicable rules.
She appealed to farmers to cooperate with the administration, saying scientific management of crop residue was essential to safeguard soil fertility, agricultural productivity and air quality.
