Rajasthan: Overnight dharna in Police Commissionarate HQ by Congress continues on 2nd day as cops refuse to register Zero FIR

Jaipur, Oct 20 (UNI) Police used mild force twice to disperse protesting Congress workers who continued with their overnight dharna inside the Jaipur Police Commissionerate head office complex for the second day today demanding to file zero FIR against Delhi police in incident of alleged beating of the party activist Ritu Barala during Delhi protests.
While the Congress leaders were staging 'dharna' in the waiting room (no:9), the party workers held demonstration outside commissionerate office to press for the demand. Their minor face-offs with the police was countered by mild lathi charge twice by the cops.
A delegation of the state party leaders went to the Commissionerate around 6:15pm yesterday to lodge the zero FIR against the Delhi Police for 'brutally' beating Barala, a Jaipur-based NSUI-Congress activist, during the party's agitation in Delhi last week.
Party delegation, led by state president Govind Singh Dotasra, also comprised Congress chief whip Rafeek Khan, NSUI national president Vinod Jakhar, former minister Pratap Singh Khachariyavas and Jaipur district president Sunil Sharma. Around midnight, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot who was out of station, also reached here to join the dharna. Leader of Opposition (LoP) Tika Ram Jully joined in the morning.
Prior to this, yesterday the Lal Kothi police station cops had refused to register FIR, forcing the party delegation to go to Commissionerate headquarters.
An officer of additional commissioner-rank advised the leaders to wait in the waiting room No. 9 until he speaks to higher authorities to seek guidance in the matter. However, the aforementioned officer did not turn up until midnight and the wait-for-response by the group of leaders converted into indefinite in-situ overnight dharna.
Later today, police through Additional Commissioner Ajay Singh, refused to file zero FIR on grounds that "since, an FIR has already been lodged in Delhi in the referred incident, no FIR is needed to be filed here in Jaipur".
However, the Congress leaders refused to relent, arguing that the FIR referred to be filed by the Delhi Police has no reference of the date of incident or name of Ritu Barala. Moreover, the referred FIR is against her.
"We are demanding FIR on behalf of Barala, a cross case, against the Delhi Police," PCC general secretary Swarnim Chaturvedi said.
Thus, deadlock continued, as Dotasra refused to leave the place until the FIR is lodged.
"We are ready to face consequences, including forced eviction or detention," Chaturvedi added.
