Haryana to procure paddy above prescribed yield limit, resolve claims in 48 hours: Shyam Singh Rana

Sirsa, Oct 18 (UNI) Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana, on Sunday, said paddy exceeding the prescribed average yield would also be procured, with farmers required to submit written claims to market committee secretaries for resolution within 48 hours.
The minister announced the measure while inspecting grain markets in Sirsa, Dabwali, Kalanwali and Rania, where farmers and commission agents raised concerns over procurement, delayed lifting of stocks, inadequate storage space and fertiliser supplies.
Rana directed officials to ensure that farmers reporting higher-than-average yields faced no obstacles in selling their produce.
He said paddy with moisture content up to the permissible limit of 17 per cent was being procured under government norms, while payments were being processed after the issuance of J-forms.
The minister ordered timely lifting of purchased stocks, adequate availability of gunny bags and additional space at congested grain markets. He also instructed officials to maintain accurate procurement records and ensure drinking water and sanitation facilities.
Commission agents' associations at Sirsa, Kalanwali and Rania submitted memoranda outlining their demands, on which Rana assured appropriate action.
On fertiliser availability, he said supplies were being arranged according to land registered on the government portal, and steps were being taken to meet irrigation requirements in the district.
Rana said CM Nayab Singh Saini had assigned ministers and senior officials to monitor procurement operations and address farmers' grievances.
The minister also highlighted the government's decision to provide Rs 10,000 per acre to farmers shifting from paddy to cotton cultivation to encourage crop diversification.
He said agricultural universities were being consulted to improve the availability of quality cotton seeds, while the feasibility of combining canal and tubewell water for irrigation in areas affected by saline groundwater would be examined.
