‘Annadata’ is foundation of UP's economic strength: CM Yogi

Lucknow, Oct 10 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday highlighted the transformation of the state’s agricultural sector since 2017, describing farmers, or ‘annadatas’, as the foundation of its economic strength and prosperity.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state’s double-engine government is ensuring support for farmers at every stage, from seed to market. Before 2017, farmers were trapped in a cycle of debt, distress and helplessness and were forced to run from pillar to post while dealing with middlemen. Today, they have access to improved seeds, irrigation facilities, minimum support price (MSP) payments through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme, he said.
Adityanath said several irrigation projects that had remained pending for decades have been completed. Uttar Pradesh accounts for 21 per cent of the country’s total foodgrain production, while its agricultural growth rate has risen from 8 per cent to 18 per cent. The state also ranks first nationally in the production of milk, sugarcane and wheat, among other agricultural commodities, he said.
