Suspended from Punjab Assembly, Khaira says, ‘If speaking for Punjab is an offence, I will commit it every day’

Neeraj Bali
Chandigarh, Oct 23 (UNI) Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, suspended from the Punjab Assembly for the remainder of its special session on Friday, hit back at the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, declaring that he would continue raising Punjab's issues despite disciplinary action against him.
"If speaking for Punjab is an offense, demanding justice for Parminder Jhota is an offense or naming Harpal Cheema as an accused for the death of Gulzar Dirba is an offense, Khaira will commit such offenses every day and everywhere," Khaira said in a post on X following his suspension.
The Congress legislator alleged that Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan had suspended him at the direction of Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, accusing the Bhagwant Mann government of a political vendetta.
"I welcome yet another vindictive action against me," Khaira said, describing AAP ministers as politically subservient and defending his controversial remarks against them.
The suspension has sharpened the confrontation between the Congress and the AAP government, with Khaira insisting that disciplinary action would not prevent him from questioning the administration over drugs, law and order and accountability.
