Deoria seafarer killed in attack on MV Cape Dao off Oman;family, village mourn

Deoria, Sep 24 (UNI) Grief descended on Karmajitpur village in Deoria after 25-year-old seafarer Suraj Yadav was killed when the commercial vessel MV Cape Dao came under attack off Oman's eastern coast.
According to a police official, the deceased has been identified as Suraj Yadav (25), who was a resident of Deoria's Karmajitpur village under Gauri Bazar police station in Uttar Pradesh, and son of Om Prakash Yadav. He was working as a 'wiper' aboard the commercial vessel MV Cape Dao.
Notably, Suraj Yadav had left for Oman nearly six weeks ago.
Suraj, the eldest of four brothers, was unmarried. His father, Om Prakash Yadav, works in Kuwait, while his mother, Pushpa Devi, grandfather, and three younger brothers—Sunny, a Class 10 student; Sahil, a Class 9 student; and Sameer, a Class 6 student—live in the village.
Upon learning of the incident, the family was left in shock. The village is in mourning, with a crowd of villagers gathered at their doorstep.
India condemned the attack on the commercial vessel MV Cape Dao off the east coast of Oman. Of the 20 Indian seafarers on board, 19 have been rescued, while 1 Indian national tragically lost his life.
The Ministry of external Affairs said in a statement , "We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. Our Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and proactively coordinating with the Omani authorities for early repatriation of the Indian seafarers. We thank the Omani authorities for their support.'
India described the continuing incidents of attacks on commercial shipping in the region as "deeply worrisome."
