EOW action secures Rs 4.50 crore refund for 13 HDFC Bank depositors in Shopian

Srinagar, Sept 15 (UNI) In a major relief to victims of an alleged banking fraud in Shopian , the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir has helped secure the refund of around Rs 4.50 crore to 13 HDFC Bank depositors, following a time-bound investigation into financial irregularities at the bank’s branch.
The case pertains to an FIR registered in 2025 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act following a complaint regarding alleged financial irregularities at the HDFC Bank branch in Shopian. The case was later transferred to Crime Branch J&K on the directions of Police Headquarters (PHQ), J&K, for detailed investigation.
During the investigation, EOW Kashmir said that it identified five principal accused, including former branch managers and employees of HDFC Bank posted at Shopian and Pulwama. All five were arrested on February 18, 2026.
