HP: Security tightened in Nahan after violent clashes, section 163 enforced

Nahan, Oct 27 (UNI) The administration is on high alert following a violent clash between two communities in Nahan, the district headquarters of Sirmaur.
In view of the tense situation in the area, District Magistrate Priyanka Verma has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS), 2023. This order will remain in effect from October 26 to October 29. The administration has banned gatherings in sensitive areas, carrying weapons, and holding rallies or demonstrations without permission.
According to a report from the Superintendent of Police, Sirmaur, people are expected to gather again at 10 am on October 27 to protest the damage to a structure at Valmiki Chowk.
The report mentions a possible gathering of people from the Valmiki and Sikh communities. It also expressed apprehension about the arrival of Nihang Sikhs from Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh.
The administration fears that such gatherings could lead to another violent clash and impact public peace and law and order. Keeping this in mind, precautionary prohibitory orders have been issued.
The prohibitory order will apply to sensitive areas under the jurisdiction of Nahan Police Station. These include the area from Do Sadak to Delhi Gate via Valmiki Chowk and the area from Valmiki Chowk to the bus stand entrance. The surrounding areas on both sides of these routes will also be subject to restrictions.
The order prohibits gatherings of five or more people in these areas without permission from the competent authority. Furthermore, carrying weapons such as sticks, batons, swords, spears, daggers, and axes will not be permitted.
The administration has also prohibited public rallies, processions, sit-ins, demonstrations, and hunger strikes without permission. Any event that disrupts traffic or public movement will not be permitted. Provocative speeches in public places, communal or anti-state slogans, the posting of banners and posters, and writing offensive messages on walls will also be prohibited.
The district administration has also prohibited carrying or burning flammable objects, such as torches, candles, effigies, or tires, in public places, on roads, and religious sites. Bursting firecrackers or throwing flammable substances on roads, streets, pedestrians, and vehicles is also prohibited.
The order also prohibits throwing stones or other objectionable materials at civilians, including women and children, and unnecessary crowding on roads, intersections, and sidewalks.
The district administration has clarified that these restrictions will not apply to services related to public safety and emergency needs. These include magistrates, officers on law and order duty, police, army, paramilitary forces, fire services, electricity, water, and municipal services, medical emergency vehicles, and print and electronic media.
The Superintendent of Police, Sirmaur District, has been assigned the responsibility of strictly enforcing the prohibitory order. Violators are subject to legal action and prosecution under Section 223 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023.
The administration's objective is to maintain peace in Nahan, prevent any potential conflict, and ensure the safety of the public. People are urged to follow the administration's instructions and refrain from paying attention to any rumors or inflammatory messages.
