CPI(M) calls for united fight against alleged voter deletions, announces Delhi rally participation

Shimla, Oct 30 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has appealed to people across the country, including Himachal Pradesh, to participate in a rally organised by the INDIA bloc at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1, alleging large-scale deletion of voters' names from electoral rolls and calling for action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
In a statement issued here on Friday, CPI(M) Himachal Pradesh state secretary Sanjay Chauhan alleged that more than 13.5 crore voters had been deprived of their constitutional right to vote under the directions of the BJP-led Central government.
He accused the Election Commission of India (ECI), a constitutional and autonomous institution, of being used to carry out voter deletions, claiming that the exercise had undermined democratic rights.
Chauhan said the November 1 rally was part of a wider movement to safeguard the Constitution and democracy, with workers, farmers, students, youth, women’s organisations, civil society groups and intellectuals raising their voices against what the party described as vote theft.
He said hundreds of CPI(M) workers from Himachal Pradesh would participate in the rally in Delhi. The CPI(M) leader further alleged that the Centre was using police, paramilitary forces and organisations affiliated with the RSS and BJP to suppress protests against voter deletions.
He claimed that protesters were being implicated in false cases and detained in detention centres to discourage opposition to the government.
Calling upon people to unite against what it termed an attack on constitutional and democratic rights, the party urged participation in the INDIA bloc rally.
The CPI(M) has demanded the dismissal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and legal action against him.
It has also sought the withdrawal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and restoration of the names of voters deleted during the process. Other demands include safeguarding the autonomy of the Election Commission, amending the law governing the appointment of election commissioners and undertaking comprehensive electoral reforms in the country. The party said the rally would provide a platform to raise these demands and mobilise public opinion on electoral and democratic rights.
