Panchkula orders more police patrols near schools, prompt action on drug complaints

Panchkula, Oct 29 (UNI) Panchkula police will intensify patrolling around schools and colleges and launch special anti-drug operations in Pinjore, Kalka and areas bordering Himachal Pradesh following directions from the district administration on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner Satpal Sharma directed police to act promptly on complaints of suspected drug trafficking and substance use received on the helpline 7087081100 and identify those involved in supplying drugs.
The directions were issued at a meeting of the district-level NCORD committee at the Mini Secretariat, where officials reviewed measures to prevent substance use and disrupt drug supplies.
Sharma said breaking the supply chain was essential to effectively curb drugs in the district. He asked police to increase patrols, conduct surprise inspections and carry out raids in vulnerable villages, colonies and border areas.
He also directed action against drug traffickers under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, in accordance with the law, and asked officials to ensure that seizures were followed by efforts to identify those involved in the illegal trade.
For students, the measures will combine increased surveillance around educational institutions with awareness sessions on the physical and mental effects of substance use.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Aman Kumar told the meeting that three police teams were working with Education Department officials and staff to conduct awareness programmes in schools and colleges. Police teams were also visiting villages and other areas to engage residents.
Reporting on checks around educational institutions, Kumar said police had inspected paan vendors and recovered a product called “Cool Lip” from several shops. He described it as containing tobacco.
Police had also raided a warehouse stocking the product and taken steps to stop its sale in the district, he said. Vendors had been warned that further sales would invite legal action.
Sharma asked departments to focus on preventing young people from being drawn into substance use while strengthening action against suppliers.UNI KK AAB
