EOW files chargesheet against Pulwama man for allegedly issuing fake cheque of Rs 35 Lakh

Srinagar, Nov 4 (UNI) The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a Pulwama man for allegedly issuing a cheque bearing forged signatures to settle a business liability of Rs 35 lakh.
The chargesheet in FIR registered in 2026 under Sections 318(2), 336(3) and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was filed before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Pulwama, against Mushtaq Ahmad Yatoo, a resident of Chanpora, Rajpora, Pulwama.
According to the EOW, the case originated from a complaint by a businessman who alleged that he was in a partnership with the accused and that Rs 35 lakh was found outstanding against him during the settlement of business accounts.
The accused allegedly issued a cheque to clear the liability, but it was dishonoured by the bank as it was drawn on the account of his father, who had died two years earlier. The accused had allegedly signed the cheque himself.
The EOW said the allegations were substantiated during the investigation, following which the chargesheet was filed before the competent court for judicial determination.
