OGW arrested in south Kashmir through newly installed FRS

Srinagar, June 19 (UNI) Ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday arrested an alleged overground worker (OGW) through newly installed Facial Recognition System (FRS) in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Jammu and Kashmir Police recently mounted FRS along the Pahalgam route of Amarnath Yatra to fend off any terror attacks.

Police said the arrest was made at Langanbal Naka.

Police said the FRS deployed by District Police Anantnag at Langanbal Naka detected an OGW at approximately around 5 pm.

“The individual, a resident of Seer Hamdan (Police Station Mattan jurisdiction) with a prior FIR registered in 2005, was working as a carpenter. He was subsequently handed over to the Police Station Pahalgam for further legal action,” police said.

This swift interception highlighted the impact of technology-driven policing and is to send a clear deterrent message to miscreants as Yatra approaches.

District Police Anantnag has already enhanced electronic surveillance along all yatra access corridors to ensure a safe and seamless pilgrimage experience.
