Driver held in Gurugram hit-and-run that killed cyclist

Panchkula, Sept 15 (UNI) Haryana Police have arrested a driver in connection with an August 29 hit-and-run in Gurugram in which a 23-year-old cyclist was killed, a spokesperson said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Mukesh Kumar of Shahpura village in Rajasthan's Jaipur district, was arrested from Gurugram on September 14. Police also seized the vehicle allegedly involved in the crash.
The victim, Akash Basor, a native of Panna district in Madhya Pradesh who was living in Gurugram's Islampur area, was cycling to work on the morning of August 29 when he was hit from behind near the iron bridge at Naharpur Rupa on the highway.
According to a complaint lodged by Basor's brother, the vehicle was allegedly being driven at high speed and negligently. The driver fled the spot after the collision, while Basor succumbed to his injuries. Haryana Police registered a case at Sadar police station, Gurugram, under the relevant provisions of law.
A team from the Naharpur Rupa police post subsequently traced the alleged vehicle and arrested the driver. The case remains under investigation, the spokesperson said.
